In today's world, this will be refraining from on gossiping, bitching and bullying others. To refrain from wanton giving of offence – words are a powerful tool for both creation and destruction – display integrity through your words and actions.This code displays empathy and acts of service. A protector only serves those that ask for it – verbally or through their actions. This code is tricky, as one must understand the difference of a rescuer and a protector. To protect the weak and defenseless – As a leader, it is our responsibility to protect those that cannot protect themselves.I have carefully selected seven core codes that I believe are crucial in today's era. There are quite a few of these codes, most which do not suit modern day beliefs. He was also supposed to control his aggressive side and display his empathic and compassionate nature. Therefore, a moral system was created to guide the knights on how to show empathy and compassion. In the violent era of the medieval period, a knight was not just expected to have the skills and the strength to be victorious in battle. Chivalry covers contribution, faith, voluntary self-restraint/moderation, truth, wisdom and courage. Chivalry is the code of conduct, a moral system of noble humans. Instead of a polite head nod or a “thank you”, I received the comment "Chauvinistic pig do you think I am incapable of opening a door myself?" Instead of being upset at person delivering the comment, I was upset at the death of Chivalry in our society.Īt the same time, I hear countless complaints that men are no longer men these days, leaders have no code of ethics, industries inability to display integrity in their product or service, employees lack loyalty and the lack of empathy and compassion in all types of relationships.Ĭhivalry is NOT for men only! It s a behavioural code for all sexes!īut how is the lack of Chivalry impacting current civilisation? Firstly, let's get one thing straight, Chivalry is not the art of ‘how to treat a lady'. I remember a situations where I opened the door for a lady walking behind me. At times, it is frowned upon if displayed. What's worse, in today's world of gender equality, Chivalry is just a meaningless word. When I ask people what is Chivalry, they often reply with the answer "Chivalry is how to treat a woman like a lady opening doors, picking her up and getting out of the car to greet her, giving her your jacket when it is cold, etc." ![]() "Chivalry" - does this word have any meaning in the 21st century?
